Modernizing a Craftsman

Modernizing a Craftsman1

Before

BEFORE was an authentic swinging door separating the kitchen from the dining/living room areas making this space “tiny.”

Modernizing a Craftsman2

After

AFTER: We framed in the door and rebuilt a matching arch opening.

Modernizing a Craftsman3

Before

BEFORE: No dishwasher in 2015!! and limited counter top due to the stove being next door on the left.

Modernizing a Craftsman4

Before

BEFORE: Very little counter top space for cooking preparation and never liked stoves and ovens being right next to a wall…

Modernizing a Craftsman5

After

AFTER: Gorgeous farmhouse sink, beadboard ceiling for some added texture and — a dishwasher!

Modernizing a Craftsman6

Before

BEFORE: Refrigerator was just on the other side of the swinging door – so absolutely no storage or functional use of the entire wall. Back entry and door was once useful back in the 40’s, but closed the kitchen to feel minuscule.

Modernizing a Craftsman7

After

AFTER: Back entry door and wall were removed to let in more light. Floors were original from 1928 and after a layer of linoleum was removed, the floors were refinished.

Modernizing a Craftsman8

After

AFTER: Subway tile, Shaker-style cabinets, a separate cooking station, glass doors on the cabinets make this tiny space SPACIOUS!

Modernizing a Craftsman9

After

AFTER: Love this new kitchen — at Sunshine Neighborhood, Denver CO.

Evergreen Log Home

Chalet In The Woods

My clients found their perfect log home and worked with Monica to adorn the rooms with special details.

The pantry, along with all the cabinets, was custom-built as an armoire. Deep pull-out drawers hold mixing bowls and large platters. Photographed by: Tyler Jones Photography

Industrial Mountain Home

Chalet In The Woods

  • The dining table was custom built. The wood was split open and book-matched with edges left natural.
  • Custom “chair lift” swing chairs were fabricated, upholstered and positioned to look at amazing snow-cap mountain views.
Industrial Kitchen

Industrial Kitchen

Designed for zero maintenance this home is constructed from I-beams, tons of steel and concrete. The commercial lighting fixtures are strategically hung at different elevations to achieve a wave-effect in the evening.

Corten steel panels were used throughout the home for wall coverings, exterior siding, this kitchen island surround and most of the interior doors which slide open on roller tracks. The kitchen was designed around commercial shelving, sinks and cabinets.

Industrial Stair Case

Industrial Stair Case

Corten steel walls and steel staircase in the atrium entry. The entry was designed also as a greenhouse in which palm trees were shipped in from San Diego, CA.
Spiral staircase was designed to intertwine around a copper water feature.

Light Bright Kitchen

Chalet In The Woods

Updating this kitchen with maple painted white/glazed cabinets and granite counter-top could have looked too traditional. Being a mountain home, we added mosaic slate, glass and stainless steel tile to add some “rustic” touches.

Light Bright Pantry

Light Bright Pantry

The nook was empty and felt barren. By adding cabinets, we doubled the kitchen square footage.

Kitchen Facelift

Chalet In The Woods

This 1930’s original log home has been updated and remodeled over the years, but it was time again for a kitchen “facelift.” Instead of gutting everything, we replaced the sink, backsplash, countertop, updated some paint colors, and changed out the oversized island with a retrofitted vintage work bench to maintain the old log home’s charm.

Work Bench

Work Bench

This original work bench was purchased at a vintage furniture store. The drawers were removed and replaced with open shelves, a new drop leaf table was built and distressed to match. Iron caster wheels gives appropriate height.

The original sink base was cut down to fit the new farmhouse sink and painted and distressed for a splash of color. Reclaimed brick keeps the old log home’s charm. New, fun cabinet hardware adds the finishing touch.
